About

roelfs-headshotR. Lynne Roelfs grew up in a small town in Kansas. As a child she loved to read, had an obsession with horses, and may have been bossy to her little brother. Some of her favorite books included the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, and Trixie Belden mysteries. She began writing stories and poems in the first grade. One of her early writing attempts (a letter to her mom explaining her decision to run away from home) ended with the line: “P.S. I hope I get a pony.” Though she never actually ran away, she did eventually leave home to attend college at Kansas State University where she earned her degree in English.

Today R. Lynne Roelfs is married and has a daughter. She and her family live in a suburb of Kansas City. She has published fiction and nonfiction passages for the educational testing market and a magazine story inspired by her experiences competing in rally-obedience with her dog, Duncan. Her first picture book, Ana and the Sea Star, is now available from Tilbury House and is beautifully illustrated by Jamie Hogan.

R. Lynne Roelfs still loves to read. She also enjoys creating art quilts, learning photography (she is determined to take her daughter’s senior pictures herself), gardening, and taking Duncan for walks in the park.

P.S. She didn’t get a pony, but she’s okay with that.
